Is Antony The Answer To United’s Right Wing Problem?

For the better part of the last decade, Manchester United attacks have been left side oriented and this has is due to the fact that there hasn’t been a specialist right winger since Valencia was moved to right back during Louis Van Gaal’s time at the club. United failed to address that position in that time while stacking up a considerable number of left wingers.

Since Erik Ten Hag joined the club back in April, he’s identified the major concerns in the squad and has asked Manchester United to bring in a specialist right winger in Antony. This has been welcomed by a number of supporters as they have been clamoring for such a signing.

Antony is a 22 year old Brazilian forward who plays as a right winger for Ajax. He joined Ajax from Brazilian giants São Paulo in 2020 after the departure of Hakim Ziyech to Chelsea. He’s had a stellar campaign in the just concluded season, scoring 12 goals and providing 10 assists in his 32 appearances in all competitions for Ajax. He’s a pass first player who creates a high number of chances by beating his marker and putting crosses into the box. He has a lot of flair and puts fans on the edge of their seats with his skillful dribbling and entertaining style of play.

Erik Ten Hag has worked with this player for the past two years and knows him very well which is why he wants him at Old Trafford. Antony has also stated in farewell video to Ten Hag, that he’s willing to join him at Old Trafford if needed.

Manchester United and Ajax have always had a good relationship which should make negotiations a lot easier. While a fee of around €60m has been reported to be able to conclude the deal, advanced negotiations haven’t started yet.
