MAN UNITED VS REAL SOCIEDAD PREVIEW + PRESS CONFERENCE REACTION
Erik ten Hag had his press conference today and was joined by Diogo Dalot.
Manchester United are set to face Real Sociedad in their Europa League group starter match. Sociedad sit in 9th place in La Liga right now with a -1 goal difference. A few key players will be out for our opponents including Mikel Oyarzabal and Robin Le Normand while United will be without Anthony Martial. United are on a 4-game-winning streak, with a win against Sociedad crucial for a good start in a Europa League campaign that could be a great chance for Erik ten Hag to win his first major trophy for the club and earn qualification into next year's Champions League.
Erik ten Hag's words on:
“Once again, it's difficult for me to talk about the past. What I see is a happy Marcus Rashford. We worked really hard the last two months with him on different aspects. He likes it, he wants to transfer it to the pitch."
“I don't think he's out of contract and I think we control the situation.“
"It started with happiness, he comes in every day, he enjoys it, he's smiling, a really positive vibe, and if you put all of those things together - like the way of play - and you are happy, you will contribute more to the team."
“The team is improving, it's getting better, but for the players that aren't in the team, they can come in at any moment and maybe do better than the players that are in. I know that you need more than 11 players. We have a really good bench.”
Scott McTominay's selection:
“You can see it like that, when the team is acting well, we have more than 11 players, then you stay in.”
“He is still out [injured], he's progressing, but he's not ready to play.”
“I feel sorry, but there is nothing I can say. It's Chelsea, not Manchester United. It's early in the season, yes."
“I can not say about that. I was not in charge last season. Not for me [nationality deciding selections].”
"Maybe I can not keep them [the players] all happy every game, but everyone gets the game time if they perform well - quite clear. As I've said, we need everyone, we have a lot of games to cover."
“We have to win every game. We want to win every tournament, so we take everything seriously. We not only have a team, we have a squad, but we have to win every game and that is the mentality we need.”
“He started against Brentford, then not since, but he is ready to start. Of course [he can start for the majority of games].
Diogo Dalot's words:
“I think you could see the impact he [Antony] had straight away in our team. It will take time for us to adapt to each other, but I can see he adapted really quickly. He is a very good kid, very open to getting help and he will adapt quickly. Everyone has welcomed him and I'm sure he will be successful.”
“When you have good competition, I like to call it healthy competition. You can see this season we have very good players in each position, which makes us better as a team. We have a lot to learn together, we have a good squad."
