Manchester United vs Liverpool: Match Review

United kicked off their campaign with a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Liverpool, winning the Bangkok Century Cup.

In the first half, goals from Martial, Sancho and Fred were the difference. Fred's spectacular effort came as a surprise to the crowd, which was very similar to his goal against Crystal Palace at home in the previous campaign. Martial's goal was wonderfully taken, chipping the ball over the goalkeeper following a successful press. Sancho's goal, although fortunate, was certainly well-taken and hopefully is a catalyst for a positive season.

Pellistri's second half goal was started by a wonderful interception by Eric Bailly, who glided past multiple Liverpool players before laying it off, where it would eventually find it's way to Pellistri who finished well.

United pressed heavily against Liverpool, forcing them into multiple errors - which led to all 3 of the first half goals. It was a huge difference to what was seen in previous seasons, with Rangnick and Solskjaer both failing to push United players to their limits. However, the defence certainly looked shaky, with the ball often finding itself easily being played through midfield, leaving the defence exposed, making it clear a defensive midfielder is pivotal in the transfer market.

Additionally, Malacia made his United debut. Although somewhat average, it is certain that he showed glimpses of his quality and will only improve with ten Hag's guidance.

Standout performers included Martial(Named Man of the Match), Sancho, Zidane Iqbal and Bailly, with all hoping they may be able to cement places as starters for the new campaign.

It has certainly given Ten Hag a lot of food for thought, with the starting XI far from definite.
